MK-6 Motion flash cart from NeoFlash
April 9th, 2007 by Edwin in Gaming Hardware
Do any of you own flash carts for the Nintendo DS? All those SuperCard Lite Rumbles and R4 Revolutions definitely offer more than enough space to store at least 15 different commercial releases on a single 1GB microSD card, making it extremely tempting to just download ROMs over. Thankfully, not all flash cart manufacturers encourage video game piracy as evidenced by NeoFlash’s MK-6 Motion flash cart. Containing a mere 16 megabits of flash memory, this is just enough room to burn a PassMe ROM or a tiny homebrew project, but definitely not enough to contain illegal ROMs. What makes this flash cart stand out from the rest is the integrated accelerometer and gyro sensor.
The launched of the DS Motion Card earlier this year has seen more than a dozen homebrew games incorporating motion sensing features, although I do admit the Nintendo DS isn’t exactly the most suitable platform to engage in motion sensing games. The MK6-Motion is a slot 1 cart and improves on the technology found inside the DS Motion Card, doing away with the need to flash your DS or going through another passthrough device to load the software within.
While the hardware does not feature 100% compatibility with existing games at the moment, developers are not sidelined as they will be able to update their homebrew projects to work hand in hand with the MK-6 Motion flash cart. The manufacturer is now taking pre-orders for $49 a pop, but looking around several online shops and retailers show a price range between $30 and $40.
