SplitFish GameWare has recently announced that it will be introducing the FragFX game controller for Sony’s PS3, offering what is set to be a much more intuitive method of controlling your character in any first person shooter game on the console when compared to the traditional joypad setup. The patent pending FragFX consists of a separate right hand mouse controller and a detachable left hand grip controller - does anyone else think that the left hand grip controller looks like a hunchbacked version of the Wii’s nunchuck attachment? SplitFish Gameware claims that this is as close as it can get to a keyboard and mouse combo for FPS gaming on a console.

The right hand mouse controller comes with the entire set of PS3 controller buttons and is used to shoot and look in all directions in a game. It also has a dual purpose of navigation within the PlayStation Home virtual world, but one thing still lacks at the moment for text input - a keyboard. I presume that will be remedied in the future by plugging in any USB keyboard, but that’s another thought to ponder upon. A lap mouse pad and left hand grip cradle are included into the entire package for a more comfortable gaming experience.

The left hand grip boasts the full range of motion control, but it remains to be seen whether it can achieve the sensitivity levels of the Wii nunchuck. What do you think of the FragFX - is it just a novelty, or do you think it will be able to usher in a whole new era of FPS gaming on the PS3? One thing’s for sure, it will definitely help those who aren’t too hot on the SixAxis complete games like Resistance: Fall of Man much faster. A wired version of the FragFX will ship next month for $59.99, while a Bluetooth wireless version will follow for an additional tenner.
