Citizens of Second Life, be warned! Australian outfit Yoick has now released yet another pointless virtual world called Outback Online. This new game uses peer-to-peer technology which the company claims will be able to meet the needs of up to a hundred times the amount of visitors Second Life currently enjoys. Yoick chief Randal Leeb-du Toit could not help but sneer at Second Life, claiming it is just a village when compared to Outback Online – a virtual world which he describes as Rome.

Gamers who dabble in both World of Warcraft and Second Life will know that the graphical disparity between both games. Leeb-du Toit proudly claims that Outback Online will feature the graphical capability that is on par with the former. Is the promise of great graphics enough to lure gamers? What does Outback Online have that Second Life doesn’t (apart from the graphics) that will entice gamers to sign up for it in droves?

How many of you gamers out there who currently subscribe to Second Life and World of Warcraft will also sign up for Outback Online when it is released? As it is, I know of people who already have not enough time to pursue even one of those online games to their heart’s content, so seeing another online game enter the fray would be interesting. I suppose it appeals to a different demographic when compared to World of Warcraft fans, but it will definitely compete with Second Life in terms of gaming time and subscribers.
