Warhawk for PS3 runs into hiccups

January 17th, 2007 by Edwin in Soapbox

warhawk-rumor.jpgThe PS3 is already beleaguered enough as it is, offering AAA+ hardware without the software that will ultimately drive hardware sales. Unfortunately for Sony, they have more bad news coming up their way with the rumor (which is more often than not the truth when exposed) that an upcoming high profile title which is hoped to be a “killer application” candidate is currently experiencing hiccups in its development. This does not bode well for Sony at all, as they cannot just rely on a couple of famous franchises (think Gran Turismo, Final Fantasy, and Metal Gear Solid) to help make their new console a success. Other developers will need to pitch in with their very own top notch games before the PS3 takes the same route that the GameCube went through.

Internet speculation has shown that this title will most probably be relegated to the PlayStation Store download section instead of being a full-fledged retail release. Plenty of people are placing their bets that this title is known as Warhawk, as it was not seen in public since the last E3 showing. Of course, like any other rumor worth its salt, you won’t be able to believe it until an official press statement clears up matters.

A representative from Sony apparently claims that this rumor was created by an ex-worker who thought the game should have gone his way instead. What do you guys think? Will Warhawk make it to retail stores when (and if) it is finally complete, or will it take the download highway instead? I suppose waiting a little longer for a polished title is worth the price, instead of receiving a copy of a rushed game that is littered with bugs.
