Nintendo DS and Wii to get all lovey-dovey soon
December 22nd, 2006 by Edwin in Gaming Hardware
It is interesting to note the similarities between the Nintendo Wii and its handheld sibling, the DS Lite. Both have been selling like hotcakes and boast the looks of a sexy console in their respective departments, offering more than just visual pleasure to their owners. The sales numbers of both consoles are short of stunning, to say the least. Despite having so many good things going for both of them, it is puzzling to see how little interoperability there is between either console.
Nintendo has issued a statement that things will change when 2007 rolls around, as the DS Lite and Wii will definitely talk to each other more. DS Product Manager James Honeywell claims that the linkage between the two consoles will be a major feature when it comes to marketing new games next year. This move is definitely good news for gamers everywhere as they hope to see more console-to-console action for this generation as compared against the GameCube-GBA generation where linkage was extremely minimal.
Industry insiders have claimed that Pokemon Battle Revolution will be one of the first few titles that will take advantage of this platform interoperability, but gamers should sit tight and relax knowing that there will be many more similar titles in the works. Will this link up be radically different from what the PSP and PS3 are doing at the moment? Only time will tell, and with the good run that Nintendo is going through at the moment, it would be natural for everyone to take a bullish stance regarding the situation. The keywords here are new forms of gameplay, fun, and interaction.
