World’s Most Expensive NES Cartridge?
July 6th, 2006 by Sean in General Gaming News
There may have been concerns about the costs of games for PS3 recently, but they pale in comparison to the asking price for a rare NES cartridge that has appeared on eBay recently. The seller is asking no less than $20,000 for it!
The cartridge is one of only 26 in the world apparently, and was made especially for the Nintendo World Championships in 1990. It contains versions of Super Mario Bros., Tetris and Rad Racer, with the aim being during the contest itself that people could win T-Shirts or even college scholarships for playing well.
If anyone does stump up the cash for it, it obviously will be for the prestige of owning such a rare item rather than to play the games. After all, you could always get a DS with New Super Mario Bros. and Tetris DS, plus perhaps Ridge Racer in place of Rad Racer for far less.
Check out the eBay entry here, and thanks to Kotaku for pointing us there in the first place!
