Tomb Raider Anniversary

Tomb Raider
Those who never got to play the original Tomb Raider when released back in the PS1 and Saturn days may well get the chance to see what all the fuss was about back then with the news that the game is to be given a new paint job and re-released for PS2, PSP and PC to mark the seminal series 10th birthday.

There’s still some controversy surrounding this title, after a video was leaked onto the Internet (check it out here, but don’t let George Lucas know they nicked the music from Epsiode 1). The version shown in the video is alledged to be one being worked on by Core Design, original creators of the first game. When the video was leaked Core went on record as saying that the game had been officially cancelled by Eidos.

However, Eidos have since claimed that the title is still in development, with the coding honours going to Crystal Dynamics, creators of the recent Tomb Raider: Legend title. One wonders if they had both teams working on a new version, and decided to go with the better of the two, which is a bit of a kick in the teeth for Core…

Anyway, hopefully the game will be be given a bit of a gameplay make over as well as it’s current face lift, since whilst Tomb Raider was ground breaking in it’s day, it would seem very limited compared to todays crop of games.
