Atari’s Low Low Prices
May 16th, 2006 by Sean in General Gaming News
The rumours surrounding Atari and it’s potential demise took an interesting new step with the news that Atari will be slashing the prices of all their games (with the exception of PC game Dungeons & Dragons: Stormreach) as of June 1 to just $19.99. Yep, every last game on all formats is to be included, and PC games will even be available for download over the Direct2Drive service and also “Valve”, which presumably means the Steam service created by Valve.
Whilst the official word from the company is that their being the gamer’s best mates (they call the scheme GamersFirst), in reality it would seem to indicate the publisher is having a last ditch attempt to raise some much needed cash. The company has already been forced into selling up divisions such as Shiny Entertainment, have had a round of job cutting and are having difficulty achieving a decent share price.
