Super Mario Galaxy
May 10th, 2006 by Sean in Game Previews
The decision of whether to buy a Wii or not will have been made easier for many gamers with the news that Mario will indeed be returning to our screens sooner than expected in his new adventure Super Mario Galaxy.
The game is set to be played using both the traditional joypad and the Wii’s remote control in conjunction. Mario appears to be thrown into a series of landscapes floating in space, and is even able to run around on the underside of these worlds (from the camera’s point of view anyway!), presumably using the joystick to do so. The remote control allows him to hit objects out of the way by swiping the remote control around like a baseball bat, and it would also appear that you can use the remote to point at places on the screen that you want Mario to grab hold of.
Graphically the game looks pretty much as you would expect a Mario game to look. In fact, the visuals shown so far haven’t been that far removed from the likes of Super Mario Sunshine. Whilst this is to be expected given the Wii is said to be more of a GameCube plus, it also shows that for a cartoon style world such as Mario’s the current generation of console hardware is pretty much OK.
