Colossus Towers In Awards
March 23rd, 2006 by Sean in General Gaming News
The winners of the annual Game Developer’s Choice award have been announced at this weeks San Jose. Dominating the awards, which are voted for by members of game developers organisation IGDA, was Shadow of the Colossus.
Much like the subject of the game itself, Colossus stomped all over the competition scooping up four awards for Best Game Design, Best Character Design, Best Visual Arts, and Game of the Year, and sharing an Innovation Honour with Nintendogs and Guitar Hero. Both the latter games also came away with further awards, with Nintendogs being awarded Best Technology, whilst the novel Guitar Hero was given Best Audio. Guitar Hero’s creators Harmonix were also awarded the Maverick Award.
Psychonauts and it’s creators Double Fine Productions also did well, coming away with Best Writing and Best New Studio respectively.
Also part of the awards are a number of gongs for independant game developers, focussing on games produced by teams working outside the normal conventions of the games industry. The big winner here was Introversion, the team behind Darwinia, which was awarded Innovation in Digital Art, Technical Excellence and the special Seamus MacNally Game of the Year award.
