Capcoms latest entry to the zombie genre is the XBox 360 game Dead Rising, which pitches you against a zombie hoarde that have overrun a shopping mall. You play a character called Frank, a photo journalist, who just luckily happens to be skilled in unarmed combat.

Frank can punch and kick is way through the zombie mass, but better still can grab pretty much any object in the world and use that to start clobbering his way to freedom. Setting the game in a shopping mall was a good move, since it allows for a huge variety of weird and wonderful objects which can be used to despatch the undead to where they belong.

Being a photographer, Frank is also armed with his trusty camera, which allows bonus points to be racked up by taking pictures of the zombies. The more zombies you can get in a single picture, the more points you’ll earn for that photo, and as the screenshot shows, you’ll have no shortage of enemies to take pictures of.

There are also points in the game where you come across people have not been turned into zombies yet, so you may want to try rescuing them, as they may be able to help you out.

This is the kind of game that the XBox 360 is crying out for and was sadly lacking from the original launch titles. The scale of the game means it just wouldn’t be possible on XBox or PS2, and it really gives a much better indication of what the machine is capable of. The game should be with us in the Summer.
