Super Princess Peach

Super Princess Peach
In a strange twist on the usual platform game tradition, the upcoming Super Princess Peach for the DS puts you in control of Princess Peach herself as she attempts to rescue, that’s right, Mario and Luigi!

Peach must negotiate a series of 2D scrolling levels (so not much change there then) and is armed with a magical umbrella called Kassaa, which can be used to float gently down to earth and bash enemies, amongst other things. All the standard Mario hallmarks are there, including collecting coins but in this game you can use the coins to purchase new attack moves.

The major new gameplay twist is the Vibe Meter. Despatching enemies builds up said meter, and when full it allows Peach to use an emotion to help her on her quest. For example, the Joy emotion makes Peach so happy she can fly (if only that were possible in real life!) and the Gloom emotion makes her so sad she starts to cry, which allows her to water plants. It also makes her run at double speed for some reason!

The other two emotions are Calm, which allows Peach to refill her health bar (so one hit kills are now a thing of the past) and Rage, which turns the princess into a walking fireball that can burn now wooden blockages in the levels, and also turns every jump into a butt stomp!

The game is intended to appeal to a more casual audience, especially to girls and generally younger players, and as such is probably a bit easier to play than most Mario games. As a final taster though, take a look at the hilarious advert for the game here.
