Lara Looks Lovely on 360 and PSP

Tomb Raider XBox 360
News just in is that Ms. Croft will now be able to raid tombs on both the XBox 360 and the PSP. Whilst it’s probably no surprise that Tomb Raider would appear on all formats eventually, it’s nice to have it confirmed.

Crystal Dynamics appear to have been very busy and seem to be turning Tomb Raider: Legends into a must-have title. The main gameplay is supposedly going to be the same across all formats as well, which is great news for the PSP version, but maybe less good for the XBox 360, which seems to be suffering from rather too many “same game, nicer graphics” titles at present.

In this case the graphics have been created specifically for the XBox 360, and the screenshots would seem to suggest this is true, with some nice bump-mapping effects in place, and an attempt at realistic hair for Lara, which whilst I’m not 100% convinced about at present is at least a good attempt at pushing in game hair rendering forward. Whether the PC version will share in the higher graphical resolution available to 360 owners is not clear, although it would be a pity if you have a top of the range graphics card not to have graphical quality of at least a similar level.

Tomb Raider PSP
The PSP version compares very favourably with the PS2 version, with textures being slightly reduced in detail, though the smaller screen compensates somewhat for this. The team are also trying to find a way that your PS2 save game can be copied onto the PSP so you can continue progress on the move. A great idea I must say, although presumably this means you’ll need to buy a copy of the game for each machine!

Tomb Raider: Legends is due for release in the spring on XBox 360, XBox, PS2, PSP and PC, and there’s no reason to suspect that the slippage which happened to Lara’s last outing is to be repeated this time round.
