Games Industry Guy Honoured
January 4th, 2006 by Sean in General Gaming News
It would appear that somebody at Buckingham Palace must be a keen gamer, as in the New Years Honours list Ian Livingstone has been awarded an OBE for services to the video game industry!
Mr. Livingstone has been involved in games in some form or another for nearly 30 years. Our older readers may be thinking “I know that name” and they’d be right. Ian co-founded Games Workshop with Steve Jackson importing Dungeons and Dragons games into the UK, but the pair are probably best known as the creators of the Fighting Fantasy game book series (The Warlock of Firetop Mountain being the first and best known of the books).
His games industry experience started in 1985 when he helped form the initial product line-up for UK publisher Domark, eventually working his way up to deputy chairman. When Domark merged with Eidos in 1995 he stayed on the board and he is now Product Acquisition Director for SCi who bought out the flailing Eidos last year.
“I am thrilled to have been awarded an OBE“, comments the man himself, adding “Itβs been brilliant making a career out of what is, after all, my hobby.β
