Is your favorite game on this year’s top 50 list? You might be surprised!

In celebration of the New Year, Eurogamer.net has just released its list of the Top 50 Games of 2005. The list covers video games from all different platforms and genre, and avid gamers will find that there are more than a few surprises this year. A number of “sleeper” games appear on this year’s list, indicating Eurogamer’s view that just because a title doesn’t reach a wide market, doesn’t mean it’s not a great game. In fact, some of the very best games this year flew well beneath the mainstream radar. There is a repeat or two of some games that also hit last year’s top 50 list. Can anyone say “staying power”?

Psychonauts is not only one of the funniest games out on the market, it breathes fresh air and innovation into a gaming industry desperate for something new and exciting. Eurogamer notes that “Psychonauts is astonishing. It’s imaginative in a way that puts almost all other games to shame. To miss out on this is like missing the point of gaming entirely”. Too bad most gamers were too busy playing Resident Evil 4, Civilazation 4, and a host of mediocre Xbox 360 games to take notice of this gem. But just remember – it’s never too late to pick up a copy and join in on the fun!

A good chart in my view. Nice to see the innovative games getting a bit of a mention. I definitely agree with Resident Evil 4 and Shadow of the Colossus.

Haven’t played Psychonauts yet because it’s taking an age to arrive over here in the UK. :-( It was due in November originally but didn’t put in a showing. Latest I’ve heard is for a February release, so fingers crossed it will appear then.

I’ve had Psychonauts for a few months now, but haven’t yet finished it since I tend to play too many games at once. But what I’ve seen of the game so far is brilliant! You’ll get quite the treat once it is released in the UK. :)
