Ultimate Spider man for NintendoDS is of course based on the original story line of Spiderman. It was developed by Vicarious Visions and is published by Activision.

This one is not the free form style of game but is more of a linear adventure. You will be playing mainly on a timer most of the time and saving one person and getting to the next one before time is up. If you fail to get there in the allotted time, you must restart the level. At least you do not have to restart the entire game just the level that you failed to complete.

The game play for Ultimate Spider Man is unique in that during the first part you are in the Spider Man phases, you are playing on the top screen, and you use all the standard controls. The bottom screen will use some motion graphics panels that will allow you to select which attack Spider Man will use and also monitor the power bar that lets you know exactly when the special attack is used. You can use some of touch play that the NintendoDS is popular for and other times you will have to use the buttons like to lift a car.

The touch screen is used the most during the time that you will be using the Venom suit. During this time, you will be able to produce tentacles that will actually whip around, grab items and throw them about. You can even grab people and pull them into the suit to feed. All you have to do is tap the screen in front of the Venom to let loose a round of claw attacks.

The levels may be short but many are hard to conquer on your first try, so it is one game that you will have to work at to win. The graphics, storyline and the ability for alternating characters will keep you interested for a very long time while you enter the world of Spider Man.
