Prince of Persia: Revelations Wakes up Sleepy PSP
December 13th, 2005 by Jen in Console News, Games – New Releases
It’s been awhile since a new game was released for the Playstation Portable (PSP). So you can imagine the excitement over Ubisoft’s announcement this week that Prince of Persia: Revelations has hit the store shelves. Not only is this music to PSP gamers’ ears after the recent dearth in new game releases, but previous Prince of Persia releases on other platforms have been very well received and highly rated. It stands to reason that Revelations will be a welcome addition to the PSP offerings.
This is the first Prince of Persia game to be offered on the PSP, although gamers should be no stranger to the series. The Prince of Persia: Sands of Time was released on the PC, Gamecube, Xbox, and the Playstation 2. A slight variation of the game was also released for mobile phones capable of running high-powered games.
Its sequel, Prince of Persia: Warrior Within, was also released on the same platforms, as was the third installment in the POP trilogy, Prince of Persia: the Two Thrones.
Prince of Persia: Revelations, in contrast to earlier POP releases though, is rated “M” for mature audience. Why the harsher rating this time around? Ubisoft acknowledges that Revelations is much more violent than the widely popular Prince of Persia: Sands of Time. Whereas Sands of Time was designed to be primarily a fun puzzle-solving adventure game, Revelations has a much darker storyline full of carnage, blood, and guts.
Revelations is actually a retooled version of Prince of Persia: Warrior Within, which was intended to be the sequel to Sands of Time. Ubisoft claims that Revelations features new puzzles and maps, resigned levels, and an enhanced plot. The storyline follows the raging embittered prince as he ventures down a path of slaughter and mystery to defy his preordained death” as foretold in the Sands of Time. Along his path, he must come face to face with the Dahaka, “an immortal incarnation of Fate seeking divine retribution” and seek to turn the hand of Fate.
The Prince of Persia: Revelations is in store now and can be purchased for $49.99.

December 13th, 2005 at 9:37 amI’m really disappointed that Ubisoft chose to put Warrior Within on PSP, as that game wasn’t a patch on Sands of Time IMHO
Having completed Warrior Within I’ve little incentive to go back and play it again, with or without new puzzles.
I’m hoping Two Thrones for the home consoles will be better, which is what I would have preferred to have seen on PSP as well. Oh well, can’t have everything…
