XBox 360 Face Plates
With only 5 days to go until the official launch of Microsoft’s exciting new console the XBox 360 we were interested to read about the latest attempt at hardware customization.

You will actually be able to buy different face-plates to match your own style or decor, each faceplate will also have an accompanying XBox theme so the look on the screen will be in the same vein as the look of the box.

I am surprised a people getting so excited about this customization, it’s not as if the games are going to play any better. Then again case modding for PCs has been pretty big (especially here in the UK) so maybe it will start a similar trend. I can imagine a multitude of competitions will start up for custom designs and I’m sure we’ll see games with there own specific offerings in the very near future.

I think I’d be more inclined to save my money and put it towards another game though I’m sure there’ll be a demand for some models (the phrase more money than sense springs to mind).

At the launch next week there will be only 4 different face-plates to choose from (different choices in different continents surprisingly) though expect more soon. If you’re not lucky enough to get you hands on the actual console due to the Xbox shortage you could always get a face plate and just pretend :) .

I agree that I would be unlikely to fork out for such a thing. It’s a nice enough idea, not far removed from mobile phone case replacements, which seem to have gone out of vogue just lately.

I’m intrigued as to how much Microsoft are planning to charge for these things. They’d make a nice freebie to be given away with a game I guess, but otherwise I can only see people shelling out for branded face plates (e.g. one with their favourite football team on or something like that).
