After a couple of years of sitting on the fence and waiting with regard to online gaming Nintendo is finally taking the plunge with the launch of it’s Wi-Fi service in Europe. Best news of all is that access to the site is going to be totally free!

The first games to be announced that will support the service are Ninty’s own Mario Kart DS and Activision’s Tony Hawk’s American Sk8land, both of which are top titles and due for release this month.

The service launches on November 25th, and is set to comprise of 15,000 Wi-Fi hot spots in places such as McDonalds, Coffee Republic, Hilton and Ramada Jarvic Hotels, airports and various other places, so the chances of a hot spot being near you would seem pretty high.

Of course, if you’ve got Wi-Fi Internet at home, you can also log on via that, but for those that don’t Nintendo are also planning the release of a cheap USB PC add-on which will allow you to connect up with your DS at home by sharing out your existing Internet connection. This is expected to cost around 30 GBP.

At the time of posting the site has not gone live, but keep checking www.nintendowifi.com for more information.
